As we wind down the school year, I want to thank all of our champions, staff, and families for an amazing, if somewhat unique, school year. Although this year saw many changes to the way students received instruction, our professors and support staff ensured that all students continued to receive extremely high-quality academic experiences, no matter what instructional model they participated in. It is because of this dedication and our high OPA standards that our champions have shown academic growth based on end of year assessments that is on par with a normal school year. This is a tremendous accomplishment and one that could only happen at OPA!! And these accomplishments will allow us to head into the new school year strong.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It has been an incredibly busy time here at OPA. Our champions and staff are continuing to finish up end of year activities, complete statewide assessments, and finish this very unique year strong!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. We are entering the final stretch of the 2020-2021 school year and things are getting very busy at our school sites. Please make sure to review all communications from your champion’s school so that you don’t miss out on any important information.
OPA welcomes Dr. Stephanie Henry, Ed.D. as the new Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Henry was confirmed at the April 30, 2021 Board of Directors meeting as the new CAO of OPA. She will be starting in this new role on May 24, 2021. We are extremely excited to have her join our OPA team.
Last week was a wonderful week at both of our OPA campuses. We welcomed back over 150 students and all of our in-person students now have a full day program. Our virtual students are also receiving more synchronous instruction and support. Although we are getting close to the end of the school year, this increased instructional time will help ensure that our champions are academically successful moving forward.
We are all very excited to start our extended day program this Monday, April 26, 2021. Our staff and professors have been working extremely hard to make schedule changes, create small group times, infuse more enrichment activities into the schedule, prepare classrooms, and get everything ready for this exciting switch. Whether your student is virtual or hybrid, please make sure that you have reviewed all of the information sent from the chancellors and professors so that your champion is ready for Monday.
Happy Friday OPA! This has been a very busy week for our OPA staff, getting ready to bring back more students and have an extended school day starting on April 26, 2021. We are very excited to have our champions on campus for the longer day so that we can infuse more instruction, small groups, enrichment, and support into our school day for both our virtual and hybrid students! Our on-campus students will also be able to get back to some of the “normal” activities such as a longer day, lunch, and play time. I wish that it had been for a longer part of the year, but at least we get to have this extra time for a few months.
It has been a wonderful week at OPA. We had a very productive LCAP Advisory Meeting on Thursday night, where stakeholders shared feedback and ideas regarding our school goals and achievement data. It is so exciting to see everyone involved in planning for an incredible future for our OPA schools.
This afternoon the Board of Directors announced its decision to offer Dr. Amy Kernan the position of Executive Director. Over the past two months, OPA families and staff participated in a rigorous process to select the most qualified candidate for this position.
Happy Women’s History Month! This month is a time for all of us to recognize the incredible accomplishments women have made throughout history and the need for us to continue to push our young women champions to strive for greatness and support each other to fulfill their dreams. As Maya Angelou exclaimed, "Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women."
