It has been a very exciting week for OPA. On Wednesday, December 3rd, OPA-Saddleback Valley was awarded the first 7-year charter renewal in California! Under the newly adopted AB1505, schools designated by the California Department of Education as High Performing are eligible to receive a 7-year renewal. Therefore, OPA-Saddleback Valley is approved to operate through 2028. OPA-South Orange County is due for renewal in 2024 and will hopefully also be eligible for a 7-year renewal at that time.

We believe that all students are unique and gifted individuals
Thank you all for your patience, dedication, and support of our OPA champions throughout these difficult times. As I reflect about what I am truly thankful for this season, it is definitely our OPA community. Although there have been many challenges to overcome in 2020, our students have remained focused, engaged, and on track for academic, social, and emotional success. You have all played a tremendous role in ensuring that our champions have the support they need to overcome these incredible obstacles. Thank you for all you do. I can’t express my gratitude enough!
It has been a great week at OPA! Students are getting into the swing of thigs with the virtual and hybrid classes and it has been fun to see all of the great learning happening at each campus. We had a wonderful English Language Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday evening. Ms. Didion shared information regarding our English Learner program and the different supports available to help our English learners excel academically. Next week at our Board meeting, we are excited to honor our students who have recently been reclassified as English Language Proficient.
I hope that you all had a wonderful week. It has been great having students on site at both of our campuses all week long. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make both our virtual and hybrid programs such a success. With the input and dedication of our OPA community, we continue to improve each day and are committed to providing the best educational experiences and safest instructional environment possible for all of our champions.
I hope you all had a wonderful Literature Day!! It has been a very hectic week and I am extremely happy that all of our families are able to be back in their homes after the frightening fires that surrounded our OPA community. Thank you to everyone who pulled together and allowed our OPA-SV hybrid students to continue their education on Zoom so seamlessly on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It has been a great week as we welcomed many of our OPA students back to campus for hybrid learning. It was wonderful to see students in person as well as on Zoom this week! Everyone worked extremely hard to prepare the campus for a safe start to hybrid learning, and it was a great success.
We are very excited to begin our in-person instruction next week for those families that have chosen to participate. As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, October 19th and Tuesday October 20th, so that staff can get ready to welcome students back to campus for hybrid learning.
Everyone at OPA has been working extremely hard to get ready for the return to in-person instruction on October 21st. We know that many of you have questions about what our new procedures will entail, and therefore, next week, we will be sending out information to all families participating in the hybrid model. This will include pick-up and drop off, health and safety, and other important information. Please be on the lookout for this envelope in the mail. If your student is participating in the hybrid cohort (on-campus instruction) and you do not receive this letter by Monday, October 19th, please reach out to your Chancellor or school office.
I hope that you all had great conferences with your students’ teachers this week. It was wonderful for teachers and families to be able to get together and discuss progress, goals, and expectations, even if it had to be in a virtual setting.
You should have received an email from your child’s teacher today regarding our return to in-person learning on October 21, 2020 for those families who choose the hybrid learning model in the recent Instructional Program Selection Survey. I have attached a short video outlining the return to school information for your reference. If you joined us for the Board meeting last night, this is the same information that was discussed in my Board presentation.
