OPA Message 9/24/2021

September 24, 2021

Dear OPA Families and Staff,

Happy Friday OPA families and staff!! I hope that you all had an amazing week. As we move into fall, we have some exciting upcoming events.

Next week is conference week. Please make sure that you have signed up for either an in-person or virtual conference time with your champion’s professor(s). Also, please note that there is no school for students from September 29th to October 1st. If you will be joining us for an in-person conference, please follow all health and safety protocols, including wearing a mask and staying home if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.

On October 15th, we will be having our first SOC vs. SV Football and Volleyball games. Please join us at our Saddleback Valley campus to root on your team!

Our school sites will be providing information about upcoming clubs and enrichment opportunities next week. I encourage all OPA champions to get involved in one of our fabulous clubs, sports, or enrichment opportunities.

September 15th began National Hispanic Heritage Month. OPA would like to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and helped to enrich our country.  To learn more, please visit www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov. This site has wonderful information and activities for students, teachers, and families. I encourage everyone to take time to celebrate and learn about the history and culture of our Latinx and Hispanic communities.

As we continue to see high COVID-19 case numbers, OPA is providing COVID-19 testing at each of our school sites. If you would like to have your champion tested for COVID-19, we are offering free, voluntary PCR testing twice a week. To sign your champion up for testing, please fill out the testing form and contact your school’s health office for an appointment when you can be present or to give your consent for your student to be tested without a parent/guardian present. For SOC, reach out to [email protected]. For SV, reach out to [email protected]

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Since the pandemic began, students have experienced intense stress and some of the biggest challenges they may experience in a lifetime. We must ensure that we prioritize the mental and emotional health of students as they return to school, some after over a year of virtual or hybrid learning. During Suicide Prevention Month and throughout the year, I encourage everyone to help build our champions’ social and emotional strength and intervene early when we see our students struggling. Here is a list of resources for staff and families: the CDE Mental Health Resources web page, the CDE Help for Students in Crisis web page, and the Back to School: Mental Health Thrival Kit from the Suicide is Preventable website. We can all help ensure our champions are safe and healthy physically, emotionally, and socially.

We are currently reviewing our Uniform Policy and need your feedback. Please take 5 minutes to complete our Uniform Survey. At the end, if you would like to be part of our committee to revise the Uniform Policy, please add your contact information.

Thank you all for your continued dedication and support of our OPA champions. Please stay safe and healthy and have a wonderful weekend OPA.
