OPA Message 5/27/2021

May 27, 2021

Dear OPA Parents and Staff,

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It has been an incredibly busy time here at OPA. Our champions and staff are continuing to finish up end of year activities, complete statewide assessments, and finish this very unique year strong!

Students have been taking the end of year assessments over the past two weeks.  All students in grades K through 5 took the iReady ELA and Math End of Year Diagnostic Assessments.  All students in grades 6 through 8 took the iReady ELA End of Year Diagnostic Assessment and the Smarter Balanced (CAASPP) Math Assessment. In addition, all students in grades 5 through 8 took the Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) Assessment.  The MDTP, along with other criteria, determine math placement in middle school. Parents will be receiving score reports for the various end of year assessments throughout the summer. This data will also help inform instruction next year and ensure that students are given necessary supports and enrichment to maximize learning.

I would like to welcome our new Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Stephanie Henry, who started this week. Dr. Henry joins us from Anaheim Union High School District, where she was the Director of Assessment and Evaluation. Dr. Henry also has experience as an administrator in both elementary and secondary districts and was a middle school principal. She comes with a wealth of knowledge regarding curriculum and instruction, assessment, and professional development. We are very excited to have her as part of our OPA team.

As we near the end of the school year, I want to remind all families to review all communications from your chancellors and professors so that you don’t miss any important information. There are many upcoming activities and important reminders, so please be on the lookout.

Next Tuesday, we will be sending out a form for all families to select which instructional model they would like their students to participate in next school year. This information is very important as we plan for staffing to meet the needs of our champions. For the 2021-2022 school year, OPA will be providing a full time, in person instruction program; a 100% virtual instruction program; and an Independent Study program. More information about these programs will be sent out Tuesday with the selection form. Please make sure to complete the form promptly so that we can continue preparing for next year.

Please join us tonight for our Board of Directors meeting. Click here to see the agenda and Zoom information. Please stay safe, stay healthy, and have an amazing four-day weekend OPA!
